So as i mentioned, I am going to perform in a gala with Francois Alu (brilliant Premier Danseur of the POB and a beautiful person as well) and other dancers of the company in Bourges (center of France) I am going to do two ballets which are difficult technically and that i didnt have much time to prepare. Even worse, I got sick two days ago and my physical conditions are not at the top level. I am feeling a little bit nervous now. I will let you keep you posted about this exciting day.
Hi Friends, I am very sorry that i havent updated this blog since a while. I was very busy during the last few weeks rehearsing: corps de ballet roles and Mercutio of Romeo and Juliet, and two other ballets for today's gala in Bourge. I was in studio from 10am to 19pm almost non stop everyday. It was unbelievably tiring. I also couldnt find the time to eat properly..... I am certainly very far from most of those who are celebrating Chinese New Year. As I may have mentioned in this blog, Chinese New Year is one of my favorite festivals of the year in Hong Kong. I love the new year food and I have very sweet memories having fun with my cousins and visiting my relatives during this special festival.
This is actually my 4th Chinese New Year far away from my home. Last year I had the incredible chance to have holidays in France at exactly the same moment as Chinese New Year, so I was able to go back to Hong Kong. But it's very rare that the two countries share the same holidays at this period. From France, I wish those who are celebrating CNY Kung Hay Fat Choi, good health, plenty of success and joy in the year of the Monkey to come! My dear host family, Mark and Odile are now in Paris with me. I am so happy to see them again. I always feel very comfortable and happy being and talking with them. They so kindly brought some CNY decorations from Hong Kong and decorated the front door of the apartment!! This coming Friday, we are going to start performing Tombe/ La Nuit s'acheve/ Goldberg Variations in Palais Garnier. I watched the Pre-Generale (before-before-show rehearsal) yesterday night. I was very touched by Jerome Bel's Tombe. It was more a conception than a real ballet. It lasts 30min. Three dancers from the company had to invite somebody to dance a duet with him/her on the stage of Palais Garnier. Those who are invited to do duets with the dancers must be people who are very far from having a chance to dance at the Paris Opera. Ex. babysitter, or disabled people. It was very touching to see how they react on stage and to see how they were happy and overwhelmed after the show at the backstage.
After this performance, I will be dancing in Nureyev's Romeo and Juliet. Several days ago, the casting came out...... and SURPRISE!! I am understudy of the second role of the ballet: MERCUTIO. I don't know why the company chose me to be understudy of this role which is VERY DIFFICULT! A bit scary, but at least exciting! Yesterday, I did my second and last gala performance in the role of Bluebird in the production "Tchaikovsky, Recits du Royaume des songes". It was in Montrouge and the stage is pretty good this time except that the floor was still a bit hard. This time, I was relaxed enough to take a photo of myself in the beautiful costume (the same one in the Paris Opera's Sleeping Beauty production)
This time, I am lucky enough to have one of my friends filming my variation during the show. Here I share it with you a bit of it. This link is unlisted, only you can watch it here! Please don't spread it on the internet this time. |
