Yesterday, we finished the third (out of four) performances of the choreographers' showcase in Palais Garnier. What a great surprise to have received the star singer Celine Dion for the Premiere! I didn't have the chance to see her after the show, but some other dancers did.
During the Generale (dress rehearsal) of this production, I sat down inside the first wing (in the side stage right) and watched the other three ballets. In fact, I dance in the third (out of four in the showcase) piece and since it is not so technically demanding and that no make-up/hairstyle is needed, we don't need a lot of time for preparation. Watching this performance from the wings, I realized once again how much I love my profession. I remember myself sitting on the same spot watching Romeo and Juliet, La Bayadere, Swan Lake...... All those big classics in which I was dancing and that I love so much since I was a child..... And this performance was great, you can believe it, Celine Dion said it. |
Here's a slideshow of photos I took from the first wing. This is the second piece of the showcase, Simone Valastro's piece. It is entitled "Little Match Girl Passion", based on the story The Little Match Girl. The stage effets were stunning.

It's a blessing that one loves ones profession. It's a curse that one has nothing or no-one in life to love.
