Today, we rehearsed Act 3 of La Bayadere with costumes. It was the first time that the principal dancers joined the rehearsal and danced in front of us. Here showing the tutus of the shadows waiting to be picked up by the dancers who would arrive soon. It was so beautiful...... I literally had tears in my eyes! So inspiring for me, hope that I can dance like that one day!

Today I arrived early in the studio before a rehearsal of La Bayadere and was alone there. I thus took a random feet selfie!
As you may have read in an older post on this blog I was invited to master classes by the legendary former principal dancer at ABT Cynthia Harvey who I met in Hong Kong several years ago when she staged her version of Sleeping Beauty in Hong Kong.
I just received two photos from the masterclass. I don't look very turned out and well-aligned in these photos.... do I? Anyway I really don't like seeing myself in photos!! It was a class taught by Andrey Klemm who is also a ballet master at the Paris Opera. He looks really good in the photo teaching! -- Credit goes to Maria-Helena Buckley and En Avant Foundation -- My cover of a beautiful song from Les Miserables, On My Own. This has always been one of my favorite songs. Very emotional and also very meaningful to me. I have been helped and supported by a lot of different people in the past few years. I would like to take this chance to thank them sincerely through this song.
The lyrics of this song is about someone always being there supporting us throughout the path of our lives....... just like someone walking with us on the sand, leaving footprints behind. What a beautiful scenery! Here are the lyrics if you want to try to sing along :D You walked with me Footprints in the sand And helped me understand Where I'm going You walked with me When I was all alone With so much unknown Along the way Then I heard you say "I promise you I'm always there When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair I'll carry you When you need a friend You'll find my footprints in the sand" I see my life Flash across the sky So many times have I been so afraid And just when I I thought I'd lost my way You gave me strength to carry on That's when I heard you say "I promise you I'm always there When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair And I'll carry you When you need a friend You'll find my footprints in the sand" When I'm weary Well I know you'll be there And I can feel you When you say "I promise you Oh, I'm always there When your heart is filled with sadness and despair I'll carry you When you need a friend You'll find my footprints in the sand When your heart is full of sadness and despair I'll carry you When you need a friend You'll find my footprints in the sand" The rehearsals for La Bayadere started at the Paris Opera Ballet. As you may know this is my FAVORITE ballet. I like the choreography, the story and especially the music of Minkus. That's why I tried to play it on the piano. This is an extract from Act 1. Hope you like it :D Around 5 years ago, after winning in a ballet competition in Hong Kong, I was invited to perform in Hong Kong Ballet's Sleeping Beauty production as a children dancer (as they needed children for the Garland Dance in the second act). It was a new production of Sleeping Beauty and it was the legendary Cynthia Harvey who was the guest choreographer. So I met her there, how wonderful it was to see her in Hong Kong. I still remember that she talked to me at the end asking me if I wanted to become a professional dancer. I was then super shy in front of her......... She still remembers me today, and how lucky I am! She congratulated me by message after I have been accepted by the Paris Opera Ballet and recently, she invited me to her master classes in Paris with other famous Etoiles of the Paris Opera such as Claire-marie Osta, Isabelle Guerin and Nicolas le Riche. I accepted with joy and excitement. And this evening, I was invited to a reception in the main Repetto store near the Opera in honor of Cynthia's foundation in Paris. It feels very nice to see the Etoiles and to talk to other dance students and teachers. I even got some presents from Repetto! How wonderful!!! Thank you so much Cynthia!
This is the first time for me to be featured in an international newspaper......
Feeling extremely honored!! I have been trying to record my piano playing in a new way as I found that the sound quality of the videos were not good enough. Here's a new video of my piano cover of a Hong-kong song that I used to like a lot. Instead of recording the sound of my playing by the mic of my digital camera, I connected my digital piano to my computer and recorded it by my computer. It seems to sound a little bit better..... I will see if I can make it sound even better in the future :D I hope you like it :) Today, we finished all the performances of the first production of the season! I think we are all a bit tired now after all these shows and we will have a rest day tomorrow. After that we will start rehearsing for my favorite ballet La Bayadere! I can't wait for that! To celebrate the end of the first production, I played another part of the ballet Theme and Variations in which I had the chance to performed 5 times in total. Unreserved LoveSeveral days ago, I suddenly thought of my Ann, my aunt who passed away two years ago....... The fact that I left Hong Kong at 14 made me far away from my family. In my mind, I always feel that I will see her again one day in Hong Kong. It feels really strange to say that I will never see her again........ I was unable to assist to her funeral in Hong Kong as I was in France. But I know that this song was sang in front of her on that day...... Doraemon "Stand by Me"My childhood has been full of Doraemon memories!!! This is the theme song (ひまわりの約束) of its latest film "Stand By Me" which is about Doraemon's departure at the end of the whole story. I love Doraemon so much because I always imagine myself as Nobita, a weak boy always asking for his magical help. But finally he realizes that only himself can solve the real problem and Doraemon's "magic" could only help him temporarily. I hope you enjoy it :) Visit my YouTube channel here for more videos... |
